Our vision is to establish Stony Brook University at the forefront of data and computing in science, engineering, the arts and humanities by advancing vibrant interdisciplinary research and education programs, providing broad leadership across SBU and SUNY, and delivering economic benefit to New York State.

Mission

To realize our vision, IACS faculty and students will pursue leadership in computational science: the development, dissemination, and facilitation of computation, including high-performance computing, simulation, artificial intelligence, and data science, to solve problems across the range of scientific disciplines. IACS-affiliated researchers will collaborate on high-impact, interdisciplinary problems with application scales spanning from laptops to supercomputers and the cloud. On campus, IACS will advance Stony Brook University through multiple actions including provision of world-class computing resources and staff, eliminating barriers through support and training for students and faculty, and through providing resources for the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body engaged in computation. Beyond campus, IACS will maintain national and international recognition for excellence in both research and multidisciplinary training of new generations of researchers.
