IACS Seed funding model for OpenAI API tool

 

Eligibility: This seed funding is open only to 

• IACS Core Faculty and their students, 

• Current IACS Postdoctoral Fellows, and 

• IACS Research Computing Staff.

Benefit: IACS will provide OpenAI API access valued up to $600 per year, per group.

To Apply: Eligible group leaders should provide the names and email addresses of their group’s intended users (including themselves, if applicable) and email the request to david.carlson@stonybrook.edu with the subject “OpenAI API Seed Fund”. Students cannot self-request. 

Timeline: IACS will transition the existing OpenAI API service to this IACS Seed funding model on Wednesday, April 8th. During this transition, all existing IACS-supported API keys will be removed. IACS will generate and share new API keys with eligible users and their named group members based on the email application described above. To ensure uninterrupted OpenAI API access, please submit your request before April 8th.

This program replaces the IACS trial-period program that offered ChatGPT and API services to all IACS core and affiliate researchers. Participants who are no longer eligible have been notified.

IACS support for ChatGPT Team account (now called "Business") is also ending Wednesday, April 8. If you are interested in obtaining any of your ChatGPT data (e.g., chat history), please see the information in the OpenAI privacy portal.

Additional Resources: You can find a list of AI tools made available by the university here. In particular, the university's Google Apps for Education license provides access to a "Pro" tier subscription to Gemini, which should offer functionality similar to the ChatGPT interface.
