Expertise
Computational & Applied Mathematics
Dr. Vanessa Lopez-Marrero holds a Ph.D. in Numerical Analysis / Scientific Computing from the Computer Science Department, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a Certificate of Graduate Specialization in Computational Science and Engineering, a B.A. in Mathematics from Rutgers University at New Brunswick, New Jersey, and a B.B.A. in Computer Information Systems from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras. She spent most of her post graduate career as a Research Staff Member in the Mathematical Sciences Department at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, followed by a position as a Computational Scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory. In her early career she held postdoctoral appointments at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Her current research centers on the modeling and numerical simulation of complex dynamical systems governed by partial differential equations, computational optimal transport, scientific machine learning, and mathematics of data science, with the goal of devising core methods for developing digital twins technologies.
