Flash is a parallel, adaptive mesh, multi-physics simulation code developed at the University of Chicago first for nuclear astrophysics applications and subsequently for high-energy-density applications. Flash includes modules for hydrodynamics, self-gravity, thermal diffusion, nuclear reaction networks, and modules for specific research areas including astrophysics and high energy density physics. IACS researchers with collaborators, principally Dean Townsley at the University of Alabama, have developed a flame capturing scheme to describe turbulent combustion when simulating Type Ia (thermonuclear) supernovae.
